Pain Relief Foundation – Ladies Lunch
By Gill Torres
On October 17th 2007 sixty-six women gathered in 60 Hope Street for the Pain Relief Foundation Ladies Lunch. Far from the twin-sets and pearls that the name suggests this afternoon was about fine food, great laughs and, more than a little, great champagne. Since it was all in the name of such a good cause, how could we possibly turn that down?
The turn-out was double the number from last year’s event – a positive sign from the start that The Pain Relief Foundation is getting a reputation for throwing a good do. As the event kicked off everyone milled around a table that contained some very desirable raffle prizes – from GHD hair straightners donated by Minsky’s Hair Salon, to a weekend for two in London donated by Myriad Travel – some hard work from Marilyn had been rewarded by people pulling out all the stops.
As you can imagine, with a group of over sixty women, the room was a chattering mass until the food arrived. We quietened to a low hum for the chicken then, unsurprisingly, silenced completely for the duration of the double chocolate mousse.
I really must say that 60 Hope Street was the perfect venue. The food was lovely, the wine was great and the (mainly male) waiting staff were efficient and professional throughout, despite looking vaguely terrified by the increasingly exuberant mass of ‘ladies lunching’. The crowd was egged on by the tremendously funny Pauline Daniels, who had everybody laughing for the remainder of what turned out to be an extremely enjoyable afternoon. Mind you, I would say that – I won the weekend for two!
The afternoon’s entertainment raised a total of £960 for the Pain Relief Foundation which, of course, is the real reason why we were all there, so well done to everybody who attended or donated and roll on the next event.
