Capital of Caring official launch

The 4th July 2007 will see the launch of Capital of Caring, a scheme with the goal of helping Merseyside to become the most caring community in Britain. It’s a big vision intent on benefiting the whole of the region. The launch event, to be held in Radio Merseyside’s Hanover Street building, will certainly help the campaign to hit the ground running.

Capital of Caring will connect people who want to do their bit to make Merseyside a more caring place and facilitate events and initiatives that promote a more philanthropic Region. The initial vision for the project came from Liverpool businessman and MENCAP Secretary Ed Gilchrist. He said “I have always had a lot of faith in the people of Merseyside and their ability to look after one another. I want to celebrate our culture of caring.” Now Capital of Caring will exist as a framework to encourage and celebrate this culture.

Since the initiative began to gather steam, over twelve months ago, it has attracted interest and backing from all corners of the district. Actor Dean Sullivan heads the Employ 2008 scheme, which already actively encourages people to go the extra mile to benefit others. Dean has backed the Capital of Caring from its conception. The launch event will be attended by many prominent figures and city leaders, keen to support the venture.

The afternoon event will be a chance to meet those involved, learn about the scheme and enjoy some great entertainment. If you think you should be there e-mail hello@caringabout.com

July 4th will also see the launch of the new Capital of Caring website. Visit www.capitalofcaring.org.uk to find out more about the scheme, share your stories and get involved.
